Pega Marketing Upgrade
We are performing Upgrade from 6.3 to 7.3.1 including DSM, NBAA, and NBAM using Install and Migrate.
From the Upgrade guides, it seems NBAM cannot be upgraded directly from 6.3 to 7.3.1 and would require to be upgraded from 6.3 to 7.13 to 7.22 to 7.31. In that regard, please validate the following:
Option 1:
- On a fresh 7.3.1 Pega platform import the Pega6x application
- Perform Data only upgrade
- Install Marketing FW 7.13, followed by 7.22 and 7.31 and run the IS IH Data Migration Wizard as a final step
Option 2:
- On a fresh 7.2.2 Pega platform import the Pega6x application
- Perform Data only upgrade
- Install Marketing FW 7.13, followed by 7.22
- Run the IS IH Data Migration Wizard
- Perform Lift & Shift upgrade by running scripts and upgrade to 7.3.1
Please suggest.

when you say v6.3 I assume you meant NBAM/NBAA 6.3SP1 on PRPC 6.3 SP1(DSM edition). Please correct me if i assumed incorrect.
I had a look at the upgrade guide of PM 7.13, I think you cant upgrade directly from NBAM 6.3SP1 to this. The upgrade says, if upgrading from older versions, you have to upgrade first to NBAM 7.12. and I couldnt find an upgrade guide for NBAM 7.12 but i suspect it expects upgrade from NBAM 7.11.
wrt to installing previous PM version on Pega 7.3.1 as part of intermediate upgrade steps, i am not sure if this is a good idea. I would prefer that both PRPC and PM versions be upgraded with compatible levels. Atleast till Pega 7.1.9. the platform difference is too big from 6.3Sp1 to 7.3.1, and you have to run the upgrade activity(RunPostInstall) to upgrade the Marketing artifacts, i am not sure how this activity will behave for ex running upgrade 7.12 or 7.11 upgrade activity on Pega 7.3.1.
so my suggestion is to upgrade both Pega and NBAM/PM in steps.
Stage 1: Pega 6.3SP1 -> Pega 7.1.3 and NBAM/NBAA 6.3SP1 -> NBAM/NBAA 7.11
Stage 2: Pega 7.1.3 -> Pega 7.1.7 and NBAM/NBAA 7.11 -> NBAM/NBAA 7.12
Stage 3: Pega 7.1.7 -> Pega 7.1.9 and NBAM/NBAA 7.12 -> PM/NBAA 7.13
Stage 4: Pega 7.1.9 -> Pega 7.3.1 and PM/NBAA 7.13 -> PM 7.21 or PM 7.22 (and NBAA)
Stage 5: PM 7.21 or PM 7.22 (and NBAA) -> PM/NBAA 7.31.

wrt to IS/IH migration, you could use "Interaction data migration wizard" from Pega 7.1.3 while on stage 1, then subsequent upgrades please refer the DSM upgrade guide as you upgrade Pega version.

Thank you for your reply. One question, since the upgrade guides prerequisites mention 7.xx and higher, can we directly implement Pega 7.22 and on it install the Marketing FW?

i didnt understand your question, which upgrade guide you are referring to?
We have 2 products here, one Pega Platform and other PM, some PM versions are compatible across multiple Pega Platform (with additional hotfixes). for ex PM 7.22 is compatible on Pega 7.2.2 and Pega 7.3, but not on Pega 7.3.1.
