WorkStatus Open vs Pending
Hi
Can anyone please provide some examples on when a work status can be Open and when it can be pending. I am always seeing Pending statuses in the applications I have worked and the samples i have seen. Not very clear in the difference.
For example, take PurchaseRequest application and when an inventory request is placed, should we use Pending-Fulfillment or Open-Fulfillment?

In this particular case, there could be two open cases,
* The parent case would be Pending-Fulfillment and waiting for the child case to be resolved
* The child case would be Open-Fulfillment as it waiting for some one to process it.

Thanks for the response. Assume a claim case is assigned to a manager for approval. Here we have only one case at this point. Should it be Open-Approval or Pending-Approval. By theory, I think its Open-Approval but normally I am seeing people doing it as Pending-Approval.

Open— Not yet resolved; can be worked on within the organization and advanced toward resolution. (A work item with a pending status is also open.) Responsibility for processing is with the processing organization.Pending— Open, not yet resolved, but the organization is waiting for information, approvals, results, decisions, documents, or similar results from a party outside the organization.
The standard properties Work-.pyElapsedStatusNew, pyElapsedStatusOpen, and pyElapsedStatusPending are automatically maintained by a standard Declare Trigger rule. These properties contain cumulative times (in seconds) that a work item had a status value that started with the literal text "New," "Open," or "Pending," respectively.
In your situation, it appears Open-Approval is suitable if you want to follow the convention mentioned in help. You are free to sway from the above mentioned convention, but if you do the values contained in the standard properties above will contain inaccurate information.
