System Initiated Reindexing
We are in Pega Cloud at version 8.3.1. Can someone answer how the System would kickoff reindexing? I know after cluster restarts, or Util node restarts, the system initiates reindexing but in our case yesterday it kicked off by itself.

Using the below setting, Reindexing on index host nodes is triggered automatically when no other index node exists in the cluster, eliminating the need for us to manually clean up old items and start reindexing.
indexing/distributed/automodecleanupandreindex= true
This setting defaults to true on Pega cloud instances.
Did you check if there are any such nodes leaving the cluster & restarts in the cluster? If yes, then it's possible.
If NOT, we have to look at the log evidence of automatic reindex action to validate.

I did see that DSS setting that you mentioned.
There were no restarts nor were there nodes leaving the cluster.
Something obviously triggered reindexing. Can you tell me what log to look and to search for?

Yep DSS is always set on cloud instances and as you confirmed there were no such restarts.
Can I know how did you come to a conclusion something trigged reindexing? Have you seen anything in logs like PegaRULES log?

The reason I know that Reindexing was triggered was one of our Admins happened to go to the Search landing page and saw the Reindexing happening by "System".

Apart from the index nodes leaving the cluster & restarts. The reindex can get triggered when the index directory is changed / index data is lost inside it OR someone might have manually triggered the reindex from the search landing page.
You can share if you find anything interesting in the PegaRULES log.
That's all I can think of.
