Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) for Android requires a new protocol for sending push notifications to Android mobile devices. To support this new Google security standard, Pega will include the support in the upcoming Pega Customer Decision Hub™ ’24.1 release and provide the required hotfixes for supported Pega Customer Decision Hub versions. Google will no longer support the Legacy API for Push Notifications on June 21, 2024.

Affected Versions

All currently supported Pega Customer Decision Hub releases. 

This release is required to support push notifications to Android mobile devices: 

• Pega Customer Decision Hub release '24.1 

The following releases require a hotfix to enable support for push notifications past June 21, 2024: 

• Pega Customer Decision Hub release '23: HFIX-B1213 

• Pega Customer Decision Hub version 8.8: HFIX-B1083 

• Pega Customer Decision Hub version 8.7: HFIX-B1483

For each of the Pega Customer Decision Hub hotfixes to work a specific Pega Platform is required:  

• HFIX-B1213 requires Pega Platform™ '23.1.2

• HFIX-B1083 requires Pega Platform 8.8.5 

• HFIX-B1483 requires Pega Platform 8.7.6 and Platform Hotfix HFIX-B455

Impact

Before June 21, 2024, all customers sending push notifications to Android mobile devices must update to the latest Pega Customer Decision Hub release or apply a hotfix.  

Do the following: 

1. Apply the Pega Customer Decision Hub hotfix.  
2. Configure the Firebase server account configuration for the current applications and use it then configuring new ones, as described in the Suggested approach section. 

Suggested Approach

1. In App Studio, click Settings > Channels > Push Notifications. 
2. Click Add application to add a new application or open an existing one.  
3. Upload a new JSON file that contains the Firebase server account configuration or select an existing Firebase service account configuration from the list. 

4. Click Submit, and then save the configuration 
5. Test the updated certificate set by verifying that your app receives automatic and manual push notifications.
