Start a flow immediately after login

Hi

I have a requirement to initiate a flow immediately after the user logs on to Pega.

For example after logging on to pega I need to initiate a flow in which user queries a particular database table and if he finds a match show the desktop in regular fashion or else show a different screen with further actions he can take. Please give me the steps also if possible.

I tried with customising ShowDesktop activity to include work-startflow, but that's not working
