ML7 Issues in page names defined with suffix ()

I am facing an issue related to page names defined in Pages & Classes tab. I recently upgraded an application from 6.3 SP1 to ML7 and found that some rules are not getting picked up. When I further analysed found the following behaviour
In the current 6.3 system, for an activity there is a page defined with name suffixed as () for example MyPage(). However in the activity step the page is referred as MyPage without () at the end of the page name. This works perfectly fine in 6.3. However in ML7 after upgrade this doesnt work.
When I removed the () in the defined page, it works fine in the upgraded ML7 env. Can I get some insight of this behaviour
