Issue in Update of Pega to 7.3.1 from pega 7.1.9
Hi All,
I am facing the following issue when I have updated the system from Pega 7.1.9 to ega 7.3.1:
"jboss.naming.context.java.comp.prpc_j2ee14_jboss61JBM.prbeans.Database.env.jdbc.AdminPegaRULES is missing [jboss.naming.context.java.jdbc.PegaRULES]",
"jboss.naming.context.java.comp.prpc_j2ee14_jboss61JBM.prbeans.EngineCMT.env.jdbc.AdminPegaRULES is missing [jboss.naming.context.java.jdbc.PegaRULES]",
"jboss.naming.context.java.comp.prpc_j2ee14_jboss61JBM.prbeans.LockManager.env.jdbc.AdminPegaRULES is missing [jboss.naming.context.java.jdbc.PegaRULES]",
Please let me know the resolution for this. Thanks.

Hi,
It seems you have to create another DataSource with Name AdminPegaRULES
<datasource jta="false" jndi-name="java:/jdbc/AdminPegaRULES" poolname="AdminPegaRULES"
enabled="true" use-ccm="false">
<connection-url>jdbc:oracle:thin:@//localhost:1521/service-name-orSID</connection-url>
<driver-class>oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver</driver-class>
<driver>oracle</driver>

<user-name>user_name</user-name>
<password>password</password>
</security>

<validate-on-match>false</validate-on-match>
<background-validation>false</background-validation>

Above was an example for oracle, but can be adapted for SQL server by making driver and other necessary changes.
However below is working example for me

Recommended change is in standalone-full.xml right? Also, may I know the way you deployed the ear/war files? I mean how did you deploy them? The other issue is that I want to take the backup of prconfig, prlogging and other files which I don’t see in the app server folder structure.

Hi Sikhar,
Yes the change can be made in Standalone-full.xml.
I have deployed the war files using Jboss Console using deploy option. There is also a command line to do so(Refer Jboss Documentation)
You can find config files at 115290_Pega722\archives\prpc_j2ee14_jboss61JBM.ear\APP-INF\lib\prresources.jar\
You can open it with 7ZIP and the make changes and save it.

Which config file is to be modified inside "115290_Pega722\archives\prpc_j2ee14_jboss61JBM.ear\APP-INF\lib\prresources.jar\" ? And if something is modified inside this mentioned location then is the modification required in standalone.xml?
Pegasystems Inc.
IN
Earlier you asked about where to find prConfig and prLogging xml files.
You can get those in prresources.jar
Well If you change the dataSource name in prconfig.xml then same should be updated in standalone-full.xml as well.

Can you also please share your jboss.xml? We have the following tags in the jboss.xml file:
<resource-ref>
<res-ref-name>jdbc/AdminPegaRULES</res-ref-name>
<!--resource-name>AdminPegaRULES</resource-name-->
<!-- reference to resource-manager entry -->
<jndi-name>java:/jdbc/PegaRULES</jndi-name>
</resource-ref>
Which according to me means that if ref-name is Admin go and search for this JNDI-NAME which is PegaRules only.

It worked. Thanks for that. But, I was trying to not use what you recommended and also, modify web.xml as mentioned in the Installation Guide of Pega 7.3.1. Could you please help me in understanding what was the issue? How the JBOSS starts up the server and what files and settings it looks for?
Pegasystems Inc.
IN
Hi Sikhar,
If you are starting your Jboss with standalone.bat --server-config=standalone-full.xml -b Proprietary information hidden
You need to make changes to standalone-full.xml.
When Jboss starts it scans the StandAlone-full.xml and then initializes all the subsystems like dataSources, jms and connection pool etc.
Web.xml comes into picture at runtime I think.

The installation guide of pega 7.3.1 suggests some changes in web.xml but the update guide does not mention about the modifications in web.xml. So, that's why my question was if I make the change to web.xml do I need to make in the standalone or not?
Also, why is the JBOSS looking for AdminPegaRules and from where? It must be mentioned somewhere in the EAR that is making it look for that one?
Pegasystems Inc.
IN
Hi Shikhar,
Page no 32-36 of this guide recommend to have admin dataSource as well.
https://pdn.pega.com/documents/pega-731-platform-installation-guide-jboss-redhat-eap-and-microsoft-sql-server
I believe changes to web.xml are kept as backup, in case Jboss terminates the DataSource someway.
Thanks,
Ujjwal
