How does BIX extraction process work on Pega Cloud?

How does BIX extraction process work on Pega Cloud? Does BIX use UDFs to extract data from BLOBs? Pega Cloud 2.x runs on AWS RDS PostgreSQL which doesn't have java. What kind of UDFs does Pega/BIX use on pega cloud?

BIX does not use UDFs ever. UDFs are needed only for reporting, the Pega Platform in general does not require UDFs in order to get data from the BLOB.

The BLOB (binary large object) / pzPVStream column in the database is compressed data that the platform (and BIX) can read and write to. When an Extract is run, the pzPVStream column is returned and that is used to generate the data for the Extract.
