@kiranr50Hi, Did you tried? Which version you are one? To double check in v8.7, I just tried for test purpose, it's allowing me to change the class completely.
Attached a sample screen shot of my test.
Would you check again and confirm?

@kiranr50 Does the class a-f-m comes in inheritance of a-b-c? Then you can try right click on a-b-c on app explorer and then Refractor>Move rules option.

@kiranr50 You can add the class a-f-m as directed inheritance of class definition of a-b-c and then on a-b-c> Refractor>Move rules, later you can revert back the inheritance. This works, but not recommended as it might cause dependency issues. May be in latest versions they allow moving to non parent class.
