Disable and enable kafka post upgrade from 7.1.9 to 8.5

Hi All -  We have successfully upgraded from Pega 7.1.9 to Pega 8.5 but post that we are having issues with Stream nodes and Kafka.

On-Premise to On-Premise | App server - Web logic Proprietary information hidden | DB - Oracle Proprietary information hidden | From Pega 7.1.9 to Pega 8.5

So couple of questions:

1. As we are just upgrading from Pega 7.1.9 to Pega 8.5.5 and our app wasn't using Kafka , is it safe to disable it and move forward (as you know we are facing issues with Stream nodes and kafka)?

2. How do we disable and enable Kafka ?

@KiranU I don't think you can disable Kafka. You can externalize it. 

You will need a stream node in 8.x and i think inherently it needs kafka to be running. 

Interested to see any other inputs.
