Working of Email Listener in Multi node environment

How does pega email listener work in case of Multinode environment?

Like adv agent we dont have a setting to run it only on a single node. How does the listener make sure an email is processed only once. How does the listener work if same listeners in two nodes try to access same message. Will the message be processed twice?
