when we perform a search in Pega and look at the results on clipboard, every item in the result list has a property - pzRanking. What is the significance of this property? Can it be used to rank the search results?

Does it indicate match probability of the search term with results?

This value mentions the value returned by Lucene (underlying library used for full text search). The ranking value in this property is what is returned based on how relevant Lucene thought this document is with respect the search string. As Anmol pointed out, for wildcard searches, this value is same for all results.
