Upgrading Autocomplete contol post 718 upgrade

We have recently upgraded our application from 63 SP1 to 718.
We have numerous Autocomplete controls which we are in the process of upgrading. However, almost all of our autocomplete controls were designed to be populated throught Activity rules which unfortunately don't feature in 718.
In Pega 63SP1, I have an activity calling a List view and executing it through the ShowView OOTB activity and then doing a Show Page to display the results.
Now, when I configure the same in 718 can I use the same activity to load a Data Page and commenting the Show Page step and then display the AutoComplete results by using this Data Page?
Is this the right approach ? Or report defs should be the easier way outs?

Seems Report Def is the easier way. Not sure if Report definition if used as list source for auto complete, whether the results would be cached in Lookup list Cache for next executions of autocomplete. If not then consider using a data page loaded via Report Def so that data page can be reused across node/requestor level.
