Upgrade WAS and Oracle version
Hi,
We are in the process of upgrading our application WAS and Oracle version.
currently our app is using Pega version 6.2 SP2, WAS 7, Oracle 11. We need to upgrade WAS to 8.5 and Oracle to 12c. As per the platform support guide, oracle 12c is not supported by PRPC 6.2 SP2.
So as part of this upgrade, we are planning to upgrade Pega version to 6.3 and planning to do it in two phases.
- Oracle 12c + pega upgrade
- WAS 8.5 upgrade
- WAS 855 + pega upgrade
- Oracle 12c upgrade
Could you please help us to find out which option is best to follow and what is the high level estimates for this?

The bulk of the Pega upgrade process is done through direct connection to the database (with some of the latter stages requiring this to be loaded in the application server). So I'd suggest based on this that you'd be best to upgrade the DB and Pega software first.
But, is there a specific reason why you're only intending to go to 6.3 (presumably SP1, as 6.3 base doesn't support Oracle 12C databases)?

We are planning to do a minimum upgrade and our DB contains 10 years of data. As per platform support guide, Pega 6.3 SP1 with HFIX-9120 supports oracle 12c. Please advise.

All 7.2 => 7.4 release do also support Oracle 12c databases.
But if you are trying to perform a minimal upgrade then 6.3SP1 does support Oracle 12c (with HFix-9120, as you had stated)

Do you have any documents that describes what are the changes needed for upgrade from 6.2 to 6.3?
Also,HFix-9120 should be applied on DB side? We are using shared DB. can it be applied on shared env?

Yes the Hfix can be applied in a shared DB. Upgrade Pega to 6.3sp1 and apply this Hfix. Hfix will be applied the way any Pega hfix is applied. Upgrade Oracle database to 12 once the Hfix is installed.
