Upgrade from Pega 7.3.1 to pega 8.5
Hi,
What are steps in involved in upgrading pega 7.3.1 application to 8.5 and is there any impact on the existing UI ot application with the upgrade.
is there any estimation tool available for checking the efforts.

Hello Sreelatha,
Following are the checklist to be validated prior to upgrade.
1. Please go through 8.5 platform support guide to make sure the necessary supported infrastructure versions are in place.

2. Infrastructure preparation to perform the upgrade. Please refer 8.5 upgrade guide

There are two generic approaches to perform the upgrade.
a. In Place Upgrade.
In this approach upgrade of both rules and data schema / single schema(if the deployment is not split schema) happens during the downtime.
b .Out of Place Upgrade.
In this approach Rules schema and data schema shall be upgraded separately. In this approach only data schema upgrade happens during downtime. If the existing deployment is single schema, single to split schema upgrade shall be performed to minimize the downtime. Please refer 8.5 upgrade guide.
3. Redeploying the application with the 8.5 war/ear deployable files. Please refer 8.5 upgrade guide for reference.
4. There are common UI issues which may arise post upgrade. please refer following community link for most common UI issues.

5. Please ensure the application deployed in Pega 7.3.1 is adhered to UI best practices. Navigate to Designer Studio --> User Interface --> Application Readiness --> Client Side Templates.
Designer Studio --> User Interface --> Application Readiness --> HTML 5 and cross verify the discrepancies listed in the above landing pages are addressed prior to upgrade.
