Steps involved in Pega upgrade 7.3.1 to 8.X

We are planning to upgrade from 7.3.1 to 8.x with CPM framework. will there be any complications like upgrading from 6.X to 7.3.1 where its not an In-place upgrade. Can some one help with documentation about the upgrade, technical challenges that might arise from 7.3.1 to 8.X, how different it will be compared to 6.X to 7.3.1 VS 7.3.1 to 8.X ?
