Pega 7.3.1 to Pega 8.x

Hi Team,

 I have joined a project where the application is moved from 6.x to 7.x. I have got a jira to upgrade it to pega 8.x . But they are asking me question why and what are the benefits of moving. 

Current Environment is Pega 7.3.1 and using jboss and Mysql Server.

Some existing manager suggested --Pega 8.x and suggested server to Tomcat and database as Postgress.

Can we move from Jboss to Tomcat as per me yes. But does it involve any major thing to be done ?

Mysql Server to Postgress-- I am not having answer what is the use of moving from Mysql Server to Postgress can you please help me with this ?

As it is a banking application it is very much needed to provide all risks and measures to be taken.

Is the suggestion valid of moving from JBOSS to Tomcat and Mysql Server to Postgress can someone please help me with this?

Please check the requirements for target Pega 8 version. If the app server and DB versions are supported in target Pega version, you can continue to use existing setup.

 

Regarding advantage of moving from "JBOSS to Tomcat" and "Mysql Server to Postgress", since Pega supports your current setup, and assuming general setup,  technically i dont see much difference. If this involves financial aspect (like license cost etc), that can be factored in. 

Regarding "Can we move from Jboss to Tomcat as per me yes. But does it involve any major thing to be done ?" Most of the standard Pega implementation  is in database, hence application server migration should be easier. Any additional configurations like mashup setup or separate applications implemented might require additional efforts.

I wanted some one to verify these things as they are the starting steps for the upgrade. And your points help me it would have been great if you mite have added the url of check the requirements for target Pega 8 version..
