Smartinvestigate for Payments and Securities - Pega8 upgrade
Our Pega solution is currently on Pega7.2.0, was upgraded from v4-v5-v6. Its built on SmartInvestigate for Payments 7.11. We also have SmartInvestigate for Securities 7.11 installed in rulebase, but our analysis says mostly we are not using this in PROD emvironment.
We are considering our solution for P8 upgrade, and doing some preparatory work. We see a question with regards to PegaSI for Securities and below are the questions. Starting from 7.4 for PegaSI for payments documentation, says not to consider upgrading to latest version of PegaSI for payments, with the following / similar note.
Related Pega financial services applications designed to work with Pega Smart Investigatefor Payments, such as Smart Investigate for Securities, and Self-Service for Smart Investigate, havenot been updated. Customers with any of these applications in their application stack should notattempt to integrate these applications with the Pega Smart Investigate for Payments 8.4 release.Customers already running Pega Smart Investigate for Payments with any of these applicationsin their application stack should not upgrade to release 8.

- Our internal analysis says, mostly we are not using “PegaSI for Securities” even though rules lying in the system. SmartInvestigateSecurities is built on SmartInvestigateForPayments, with only PegaSISecurities ruleset mentioned in application rulsets. We believe, it is sufficient to get rid of dependencies with rules (i.e. classes & inheritance , properties and rules). please suggest?
- Just in case, if we find some reference for this FW in current production system, any ideas what would be the right version to choose for P8 upgrade?

The upgrade guide for Pega Smart Investigate: https://community.pega.com/knowledgebase/documents/pega-smart-investigate-payments-84-upgrade-guide also says Pega Smart Investigate for Securities, and Pega Self-Service for Smart Investigate have not been upgraded.
If those applications are in use, updating to release 8 is not recommended. Is there specific need for Pega 8 upgrade in terms of functionality? Pega 7.4 is a very capable and stable platform. Removing those applications from the definition in development environment is a necessary test.
If upgrade to 8 is a must, upgrading to the highest version of 8 out right now, 8.4. After experiencing multiple different versions of 8. The higher the version, the more functional and stable the environment has been.

We just have "Pega Smart Investigate for Securities" installed in our application rulebase, but not others mentioned in the document note.
Also, we have 2 reasons for considering P8.x upgrade
- We want MQ remote with certificates support, which is available post 7.4, I believe
- 7.4 is not an option, as it would cost same as 8.x upgrade
So, assuming PegaSI for Securities not in use by any part of our application, if we are removing all dependencies with PegaSISecurities ruleset and testing is performed, would it be fine to consider upgrading to compatible(both infra and platform) pega8.x and PegaSI for Payments 8.x combination?

The statement in the SIP upgrade guide helps clarify that there might not be a Securities 8.4 version release, and for any upgrades we need to make sure to check the latest Product version of Securities or/and any patch that might have been released for the SIP version in discussion, "after the SIP version has been released".
So going by this, The SIP 8.4 version is released but SI for Securities, GA 8.2 is the latest version available for securities layer. With this stack, there is a patch available to make sure SI for Securities 8.2 works well with SIP 8.4 (or say the latest version). For such patches of SI Securities that make sure there is compatibility with SIP base GA product, please refer SI Securities patch list link: https://community.pega.com/knowledgebase/articles/pega-smart-investigate-securities-hotfixes link.
As for the upgrade process, you can plan with below path for upgrade,
Platform 7.2 -> Platform 8.x
SIP 7.11 -> SIP 8.4
SI Securities 7.11 -> SISecurities 8.2. (Can be done independently of SIP 8.2 as there is a compatibility patch listed with SIP 8.4)
Install SI Securities 8.2 patch "HFix-62093" for compatibility with SIP 8.4.
