The Edit-Validate_Rule does not restrict the control and still shows future and past dates to the user, there is no OOTB option for that. This seems strange as it unnecessary to show users a selection which is redundant and the second they are entering it the UI screams that they are wrong. Why not eliminate wrong data entry from the start and only show the correct control? Avoids clicks and frustration from users side and makes implementation easier as it seems a very common request from client side.
