PROS and cons doing in place upgrade vs out of place upgrade from 7.2.1 to 8.2.1

We have a custom application on a single node. we want to upgrade from version 7.2.1 to 8.2.1; I want to know all the pros and cons of in-place upgrade vs out of place upgrade. Downtime is not critical for this app.

we have a lot of data types and work objects with different child cases.

Please hare all your recent experiences related to upgrades lessons learned.

If downtime is not critical then you can consider an In-Place upgrade. Also, a few other factors would be :

1. no requirement of parallel development since during the upgrade period, the system would not be in workable condition 

2. all applications in the current DB are getting upgraded. In other words, no app selection is required
