Processors and Steps pega 7.2

As shown in image we can add processors and steps in pega 7.2. But earlier it had only stages and steps.Is there a difference in these two approaches ?

In 7.2 can we avoid adding processors(Blue colour) ?

Earlier each step used to generate a process in the background where as with the new approach each step would be either an assignment or a flow shape. Each stage can have more than one process (blue color items) and it is required to add a step. Hope this helps.
