PostgreSQL CPU and Memory Vendor Recommendation
I have a client who is looking for a PostgreSQL CPU and Memory Vendor Recommendation. They are currently running on default CPU, RAM and storage settings. They are on PostgreSQL 11.10.0 with cluster option (Primary/Secondary and Disaster Recovery fail over) with OS Linux 7.9. They have disk allocations that re on SUN storage. They are currently increasing CPUs to 16 CPUs per host and RAM to 32GB. Storage is also being increased to 1 TB and .5T for log files.
The client would like Pega's recommendation on optimum RAM and CPU ahead of their performance testing. Here is the expected volume:
- 10k concurrent hourly users during AEP
- 25k hourly interactions created at peak of day
- 34k hourly cases created at peak of day

@dalem What you are expecting is a capacity planning and hardware assessment which cannot be derived based on the information provided. There should be a detailed study about the workload and simulate it against the initial estimated hardware to establish a baseline from there we can add more hardware to ensure linear scalability. We need to collaborate with the customer run few performance test to identify Database usage and PostgreSQL tunings such as Shared_buffers, WAL_BUFFERS, work_mem, maintenance_work_mem.
