Microsoft Office 2010 is not present.
When I first loaded Pega Robotics Studio 8.0, I may have (out of habit) originally selected Microsoft Office 2010. I have reloaded Pega Robotics multiple times properly selecting Office 2016 with reboots galore. I have deleted the entire %appdata%\OpenSpan in between, and still I get the error message "Error on BeforeStart() of Design Component: xxxxxxxx.Project may not operate correctly. Microsoft Office 2010 is not present."
And sure enough, it doesn't operate properly. I have confirmed that both the RuntimeConfig.xml in the %appdata%\OpenSpan directory and the one in the Program Files (x86)\OpenSpan\... directories are set to 2016. And still I get the error.
I have searched the .os files and elsewhere for any mention of Office 2010. Nothing.
If I look at the Excel Connector Properties I see a property "SupportedName" is set to "Office 2010" but I have no idea what it means or how to change it or if it makes any difference.
Would appreciate any help.

Oh, Jeff! I sure did. I checked everything. The only way I got it to work was to uninstall Pega Robotics AND all the Visual Studio parts. I have no idea what happened. It was painful, but appears to be solid now.
