How to drag and drop an email from Outlook directly into pega 7.1.8?
In our application we are having an requirement to drag and drop an email from Outlook directly into pega and create an email interaction using this.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. TIA.

It looks like Pega is trying to get away from ActiveX controls, so Outlook drag and drop is not present by default in Pega 7. However if you run the IE11 in compatibility mode or have older versions of IE, it will look for ActiveX controls and will enable outlook integration.

I wouldn't recommend changing the compatibility settings on IE, as it might impact other applications in your organization. I think its better to raise an enhancement request for Pega.

Regarding the first part of your requirement, I can tell you that this will not work assuming you are using IE11 and Outlook.
As you may know (and as Pratap alluded to), in Pega 7 we have adopted HTML5 web standards. In that transition we are using the HTML5 FileAPI instead of the older ActiveX technology to have a cross browser compliant drag and drop implementation.
This scenario will fail when you try and drag and drop directly from Outlook using IE11. The reason why this fails is because Outlook is not following the standards set for this API. There are a couple local change options you can explore.
1) Drag the outlook item to the desktop first. Then drag it onto the drag and drop target.
2) Some customers are exploring third party plugins to fix Outlook into making this work with HTML5 http://www.wilutions.com/ddaddin/index.html
