Did you try different browsers ? Which version of Pega your are using ?

Can you give any screenshots explaining the icon your are talking about ?

Attached below is the snapshot highlighting a small outlook icon in the bottom right corner. This prevents detection of any attachment. The tracer doesn't show anything.

I am using PRPC 62SP2 on IE 8 and 9. It doesn't work on either of the browser versions.

Somebody please advise.

I suggest that you enter a support request for this issue.

I have a requirement to attach files only drag and drop and not using upload button. I see a small crossed out icon by default when I launch the modal dialogue which is prevents any attachment to be attached. Nothing shows up in the tracer as well

Please suggest me how to resolve the issue

If you can try a different browser. Check the security on the browser you are using?
