Can we provide Segment as default source for simulation data flow

Currently Pega allows to select the customer class related dataflows only in OOTB simulation. Our business want to run the simulation for only set of customers and we are not able to provide segment has default source. We could add segment as join but system needs to go to all the records in customer table. One of solution is like keep the less customers in customer view/table. But this need all the time table update.  Please let me know if any other solutions available.
