There is no optimal value for the setting that is valid for all applications, as the optimal value depends on many factors including the processing that the application performs.

Thanks for this, I understand it will depend on a number of factors, but in terms of a generic Case Management Application, would there be a recommended default number to start with?

We had maxThreads of 5 configured, until this was overwritten to 20, there was no real reason for this uplift (may even have been increased in error) - we are seeing some CPU spikes in our load test env, and i'm wondering if we'd still see this spiking if we were still running on 5 threads? ie the app is now executing all 20 threads therefore consuming more memory & using more CPU.
