Differences between StartFlow and ResumeFlow

Can Somebody explain me in layman terms, differences between using StartFlow and ResumeFlow in an Activity Rule ??

StartFlow would be used to start a new flow on a work object. ResumeFlow would be used to execute a particular flow action on an existing flow to resume the flow from that point.
