After just again reading the out-of-place update procedure, will a in-place update not be the same but without the copy of the existing rules and data schema to a blank one?

How many schemas do you have in current Pega 7.2?

InPlace upgrade means single schema upgrade, i.e. before and post upgrade you will have single schema.

Out of place upgrade means split schema upgrade, i.e post upgrade there would be two schemas, rules and data.

Install & Migrate upgrade means you have to set up a fresh Pega 7.2.1 instance and will be moving the old application rules as RAP.

According to update guide in-place update can be us for split schemas setup

The difference (according to the documentation) is that in-place uses the live schemas and out-off-place is using off line schema's.

We're having the same issue, looking at a 7.2.1 to 7.2.2 update. The guide doesn't explain how to do an in-place update. Given our 7.2.1 will be empty at the point of update, there's no need for us to go down the laborious path of trying an out-of-place update.

Does anyone know how to do an in-place update?

Please perform the following steps on in-place update.

1) take a back up of rules and data schema

2) update the steupdatabase.properties file with database connection details along with rules and data schema names

3) run the update.sh (if you are using the update build)
