Differences in the system between in-place upgrade to 8.7.4 to a fresh install of Pega 8.7.4
Would be there be any difference between an Pega application in an instance/system that was upgraded to Pega 8.7.4 using the in-place upgrade scripts, to an instance/system that is running a fresh install of Pega 8.7.4 and the same upgraded application package was moved/deployed manually into it?.
To elaborate, we are upgrading our application that is currently running on Pega 8.2.8 to Pega 8.7.4. To perform the upgrade we are cloning the existing Pega 8.2.8 into a new box (our Upgrade DEV box) with our customer service application and then running the in-place scripts to upgrade it to Pega 8.7.4 version. After performing the unit testing, we are planning to package the application and move it to a new box (Upgrade UAT Box) that is having a fresh install of Pega 8.7.4 version. So the question is:
1. Will the application, that was packaged and moved to the new box (Upgrade UAT Box) having a fresh install of Pega 8.7.4 version, behave any differently in the "Upgrade UAT Box" compared to the "Upgrade DEV box"?
2. Are there any kind of issues that we may face with this upgrade configuration/process we are following?

Option 1 will definately work. It will not behave differently. . You can certainly perform this in lower environment. Whats your plan for production data?
Alternately, you can perform the out of place upgrade in lower live environment directly as well. which will handle both rules and data too

The result of the upgrade will be different. The reason for it is the customer service application that is installed.
I know from experience that a platform upgrade comes with nice scripts to remove previous versions of rules and only leave the latest versions on the platform.
For customer service there are no such scripts. The old versions of rules, including class rules, are still on the environment after upgrading the platform.
When upgrading our environment we faced issues that were all traced back to old rules still available on the system, which would not have been there during a fresh installation.
So my advice, do the exact same thing on the other environment as you'll be doing on your actual environments. Then you're sure you get the same results.
