Expand Pane Vs Model Dialog window from Repeating Grid

I have a requirement where I can show either Expand Pane or Model Dialog Window from Repeating Grid ( In 6.2Sp1 ). The Expand Pane or Model Window Will open a Read/Write Section. Though my preference is Expand Pane, May I kow which is best option in terms of Performance & UI readability and Why ?
