totalmemory showing inconsistently in SMA

Hi ,

 

We are using PRPC 5.3_89 on IBM Web Sphere 6.1. we have  have given 2GB (mina and Max) heap space web spehere application server. but we are seeing only 1 GB SMA. we are facing this issue when ever we have restarted JVM. After some time it is showing normal.

 

Please advice on this.

PRPC is calling java.lang.Runtime.totalMemory().

Every JVM can implement memory management differently.

I suspect the JVM has not had a need to allocate 2GB and is showing you what it currently has allocated.
