How to store attachments in a different DB

We have a requirment to store attachements like Photo's to be stored in an external DB via soap call while all other attachemetns should still be stored in pega DB.

Pega provided OOTB rules for save attachements are all final rules, so we will end up doing customization if we change them. Please let us know design approach on the same.
