1) 7.2 launch was just announced this past week. See here for the product page.
2) If you are referring to the CLSA exams, They are currently based on the functionality that is present in 71ml7, which is what the course is based on.
FYI: A new 71ml9 CLSA Image is available which can be downloaded from the CLSA course overview > Downloading the exercise system module. This replaces the original 71ml7 image which you may have already downloaded to prepare for the CLSA Part II exam. Although not imperative, It is recommended that you download this updated image and use it in order to complete your studies and exam. We have had a few people run into issues using the 71ml7 image which is the reason we have updated to this new version. When grading your exam, we will use the same image version which you have used to complete your exam. There are some new features available in 71ml9 which may make it easier to perform some tasks (REST API for example), however it is not tested in the Part I exam, nor is not imperative that you leverage the ml9 specific features in your Part II exam and you will not be graded negatively if you choose not to use them.
At this time there is no exam retirement planned. If there is the possibility that a certification will be retired, we will make every effort to notify all users ASAP and allow those studying the current version to complete their studies and take the exam. In the past, this has been approximately 6 months which hopefully would be enough time for you to complete the exam.
