Issue  

When using the Rich Text Editor (RTE) in Pega Platform™ 24.2.3, the Undo function (toolbar button or Ctrl+Z/Cmd+Z) removes all entered text or large chunks instead of undoing only the last typed segment.

Symptoms and Impact

•    Users expect incremental, fine-grained undo control similar to standard text editors.
•    Actual behavior removes text in larger chunks based on snapshot timing.
•    Affects user productivity when editing content in RTE fields.

Steps to Reproduce   

1. Create a section with a Rich Text Editor control.
2. Enable Undo/Redo in the toolbar options (required for Ctrl+Z to work):
3. Open the section containing the RTE control.
   1. Select the Rich Text Editor field.
   2. Navigate to Presentation tab in field properties panel.
   3. Under Toolbar options, enable Undo/Redo.
   4. Save the section.
4. Type text with spaces: 'aa bb cc.'
5. Click the toolbar Undo button (↩ icon) OR press Ctrl+Z.  Result: All text 'aa bb cc' is removed (or removed in large chunks), not just 'cc.'

Root Cause   

This is expected behavior by design and represents a gap in product features based on how CKEditor (the underlying technology for Pega's RTE) implements undo functionality.

CKEditor uses a snapshot-based undo system that captures RTE state at intervals (time-based or event-based).  Snapshots are not created on every character or word typed.  

Both the toolbar Undo button and keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Z/Cmd+Z) use the same snapshot stack. When Undo is triggered, CKEditor reverts to the previous snapshot, which may include multiple typing operations.  

This behavior is core to CKEditor architecture and cannot be modified through Pega configuration.

Solution

There is no out-of-the-box solution to achieve incremental, character-level or word-level undo functionality in Pega's Rich Text Editor.
