After updating to Pega Platform™ '25.12.3, Remote Case Types become unavailable in the Case Type settings

Symptoms and Impact

Users cannot view or select Remote Case Types, cannot save Case Type rules with remote associations, and cannot create new Remote Case associations. The Remote System URL, OAuth 2.0 configuration, and network connectivity are not the cause.  

The following errors are observed: 

1. The Remote Case Type configuration panel displays: "Remote Case Type is not available. Please check the settings." 

2. The security log records: 

InsufficientPrivileges:RuleExecutionDenied 
RULE-OBJ-ACTIVITY RULE-OBJ-CASETYPE PXDISCOVERCASETYPES 
Missing Privileges: [@baseclass:ViewOtherApps], AccessGroup: PRPC:Agents 
HTTP service [CaseManagement][Rule-Obj-CaseType][Discover] failed: 
Authorization failed due to insufficient privileges. 

3. The pzRetrieveRemoteCaseType activity throws:  java.io.IOException: Server returned HTTP response code: 403 

4. A secondary mapping error may appear: 

com.pega.pegarules.pub.services.InboundMappingException: 
Exception occurred while mapping incoming response to .response_GET 

Steps to reproduce

1. Update a Pega Platform environment to Pega Platform ‘25.1.3. 
2. Open App Studio or Dev Studio and navigate to a Case Type that uses Remote Case Settings.  
3. Go to Settings > Remote Case Settings.  
4. Select the Constellation interface option.  
   • Result: The Remote Case Types dropdown does not populate.   
   • Error message is displayed: "Remote System is not available. Please check the settings.” 

Root Cause

The ViewOtherApps privilege was added to the pxDiscoverCaseTypes activity (Security tab) to restrict access to Case Type metadata. However, the out-of-the-box PRPC:Agents access group — which uses the PegaRULES:BATCH role — was not updated to include this privilege. Because the Remote Case discovery service runs under the PRPC:Agents access group, every call to the CaseManagement/Rule-Obj-CaseType/Discover endpoint returns HTTP 403, preventing the Case Type list from loading. 

Solution

Install the following patch release where a new privilege has been added to pzDiscoverCaseTypes to ensure Remote Case Types are returned and visible as expected for appropriately authorized access: 

• Pega Infinity™ '25.1.4 

The below hotfixes are available for releases without the fix: 

• HFIX-D3678 for Pega Infinity '23.1.5 
• HFIX-D3192 for Pega Infinity '24.2.5  
• HFIX-D3193 for Pega Infinity '25.1.3 
• HFIX-D3194 for Pega Infinity '26.1.0 
• HFIX-D3340 for Pega Infinity '26.1.1 

The fix will be included in upcoming patch releases.  

This document will be updated when the patch is released. 

Interim Workaround 

In environments where a hotfix is not available, add the ViewOtherApps privilege to the role in PRPC:Agents.
