To answer your question directly, Pega being a competitive, robust and versatile CRM product is expected to support all type of servers irrespective of Application or Web servers.

Though there are pros and cons associated with Application(WebSphere) and Web server(Tomcat).

Could you please elaborate your question a little more? Do you mean to ask which server we should use? Or Which server is better to place with Pega?

Pega supports almost all top Application servers like WAS, Jboss, Weblogic and Enterprise Tomcat.

You are allowed to use any type of server based on your requirement.

If you run your bread and butter pega application on WebSphere you'll have immediate security and application server updates/support. WebSphere also provides many under the cover services that may be required.
