Upgrading PRPC 5.5 to 8.1
Background:
As a part of AWS migration, we are planning to migrate all the PRPC apps to cloud supported technology stack.
Our end state DB will be Amazon Aurora/postgreSQL and App servers to Tomcat.
Question:
1. Is in-place upgrade is the only option to upgrade from PRPC 5.5 to 8.1 or 7.4?
2. Can we directly upgrade the application from 5.5 or any version pre-requisite is required?
3. Any previous learning?

There must be no restrictions on PEGA versions upgrade.
You can choose any versions (prefer latest one). Please refer upgrade guide from new release to get clear understanding.

It also a good practice to copy the entire environment, make the upgrade on that copy and see if your applications working properly. It can happens that if you developed app by using a lot of custom code that some of the features will not work.
It should be easy exercise if you are using AWS.

The recommendation is to understand the upgrade experience on a clone first. The process is documented for 7.4 to 8.1 on https://community.pega.com/knowledgebase/articles/pega-cloud-services-upgrade-pega-platform-and-suite-crm-applications
And I'm afraid that we do not have documented procedure from 5.5 to 8.1.
