Upgrade issue from Pega 8.5 to Pega 23.1 Infinity
Hello I'm in the process of upgrading a Pega instance from version 8.5 to 23.1 Infinity. I've completed the following steps:
- Updated the SetupDatabase.Properties file
- Replaced the prweb.war file in the Tomcat 'webapps' directory
However, when I attempt to run the upgrade.sh script, I receive an error message stating that the JAVA_HOME environment variable needs to be defined.
System Details:
- OS: Ubuntu
- Database: PostgreSQL
Could someone please advise on how to resolve this environment variable issue?

Check the value of $JAVA_HOME
if empty, this is your issue.
in the script itself
if [ -z "$JAVA_HOME" ]; then echo "The JAVA_HOME environment variable must be defined." exit 1 fi
if ! ls -l "$JAVA_HOME/bin/java" >/dev/null 2>&1; then echo "The JAVA_HOME environment variable must point to a valid installation of the JDK" exit 1 fi

@Anthony_Gourtay Thanks for the Quick Response. I Already set the Java Home. Still is showing the same. Can you please guide how to re-set the JAVA_HOME. Thanks in Advance.

in the profile of the user which will launch the script export JAVA_HOME=/yourPathToYourJavaDirectory/java/8.0
to be updated as per your server install
when logged in, just echo $JAVA_HOME and you'll see whether the script
Or add details in the function
if [ -z "$JAVA_HOME" ]; then echo "The JAVA_HOME environment variable must be defined." echo "Current value for JAVA_HOME: $JAVA_HOME"
exit 1 fi
if ! ls -l "$JAVA_HOME/bin/java" >/dev/null 2>&1; then echo "The JAVA_HOME environment variable must point to a" echo "valid installation of the JDK" echo "Current value for JAVA_HOME: $JAVA_HOME" exit 1 fi
or add set -ax in second line of the script and you'll see debug version of the script

I have updated the JAVA HOME and able to see the JAVA HOME Path with Echo command. But, still i am facing the same issue. Attaching the screenshot for reference.
