Quiesce and graceful shutdown

If we have multiple app servers and want to shut down only particular nodes for maintenance, what is the formal procedure? Also, I find two terminologies "quiesce" and "graceful shutdown" in Pega site but are they the same meaning or slightly different.

Please refer to this doc for the Pega High Availability Guide: https://community.pega.com/system/files/media/pdf/pega-platform-81-high-availability-admin-guide.pdf. Pega 8.4 enables quiesce by default (see details in the doc) on any server graceful shutdown to preserve requestor states (saving to database) so that end users are not affected if you do have multiple nodes configured.
