PRPushServlet - What is this used for?

If there is no action on the portal, we see a call made every 30 seconds (roughly) to /prweb/PRPushServlet/ in the developer tools of a browser.

What is the significance of this call and is this needed for the core functionality of the product?

I've gone through some SA which indicates to a DSS to "turn-off" this call, however not sure what this is used for to take a decision.

PRPushServlet is used to support real time push notifications on web clients.

Features like Operator Presence and Notification Channels are based on push notifications to work.
