Pega upgrade 8.8.3 to 24.1
We want to upgrade our pega platform 8.8.3 to 24.1 and we have classic Websphere Proprietary information hidden which has Java 8. Pega says it’s not supported but need to have Java 11 or 15. Where as our current WAS version doesn’t support Java 11 and to upgrade to Java 17 IBM says WAS has to be liberty. We don’t want to upgrade WAS but only pega platform to 24.1 so please give me the options. Thanks

You won’t be able to upgrade to Pega 24.1 while staying on your current WebSphere setup with Java 8. Pega 24.1 needs at least Java 11 or 17, but classic WebSphere doesn’t support those versions of Java. IBM says to use Java 17, you have to move to Liberty, which you’re trying to avoid. So at this point, you have two real options: either switch to a supported platform like Tomcat or Liberty with Java 17, or stay on your current version of Pega (8.8.3), which is supported until at least 2026. There’s no way to run Pega 24.1 on Java 8, so something has to give either the app server or the upgrade.

I think even Liberty is also not an option since it is deprecated in 24.1 but Java 17 is supported. So, either we switch to Tomcat 9.x and 24.1 or Container deployments. Thanks !
