Pega converting apostrophe(‘) while copying from excel/word in to pega text area
when we are copying the special character from “MS-Excel” and when we are copying the text with apostrophe(‘) from “MS-Word”. while copying in pega text area, its converting in to reverse question mark symbol.
The issue reported is users are seeing an upside down question mark while they are entering some text in the textbox.
please suggest a workaround or a fix for this, thank you

@Sharadk1 can you confirm which OOTB Pega Control you are using for your text area?
The issue appears to be related to faulty character encoding. It would be good to know from what location//server setting users are copying this MS application text.

"Word uses Windows-1252, where the typographically correct apostrophe is included. But you declare the encoding as ISO 8859-1, and the code point used for the apostrophe lies in the range reserved for C1 control characters in the ISO encoding
Word uses the correct apostrophe character, but HTML can only cope with the single or double quote.
You could do a find-and-replace to fix the incorrect quote characters with either the basic form or the unicode character reference". If you copy from Word, you may run into problems depending on which editor you use for your HTML document. You may have to set it to Windows-1252 first, then copy from Word, then save as UTF-8..

Can you provide a document with screenshots illustrating your issue
How is the apostrophe ( straight mark? curly apostrophe?) character in your Excel file displayed if you first paste it into a Notepad++?
How is it displayed if you open the whole .csv in Notepad ?
Instead of text input, please try using RichTextDisplay control and let us know your observations.

@Sharadk1 This sounds expected because the RTE is designed to maintain and store the rich content which requires HTML or other associated markup to dictate the rich nature of the text. If it did not, then it would simply be a text area.
Please test using an HMTL-free notepad to confirm that Pega is simply adhering to other editor standards:
1. How is the apostrophe character copied from your Excel file displayed if you first paste it into a Notepad++?
2. How is it displayed if you open the whole .csv file in Notepad ?
If you see the HTML tags then this is working as designed.

@MarijeSchillern thank you, so in excel if its character(‘) then in notepad its copying character(‘) like reversing the apostrophe symbol, Unlike in PEGA.

@MarijeSchillern Hi So the root cause is different
a) we are copying from MS work or excel, all different types of quotes
b) saving to DB and till that time its fine
c) while getting data back from the DB, we are seeing reverse question mark for all types of quotes
Is there any OOTB or Java thread which we can use? because while getting back from the DB we dont know for which types of quote DB converted in to revers question mark?
