Pega 7.4 versus Pega 8.1. Which one to choose and why?
Hello!
Is there any documentation or feature guide as to why I should use Pega7.4 versus Pega8.1?
Architecture is pushing for 8.1. However, we need to convince management why we should go to 8.1 vs. 7.4. Is there a side-by-side comparison as to why we would choose 8.1 over 7.4?
I haven't been able to find such a document on the PDN.
Thanks!
Fred.

Thank you Susan. I've seen the information on the PDN.
My question is what features are new in 8.1 vs. 7.4? Is there a feature comparison guide between both versions? For example, you need to buy a new TV. You can compare TV's and get a list of features. I'd like to see a list of features between Pega versions.
Thanks!

You can view the details that are in the release notes for just the 8.1 version to see what capabilities are there: https://community.pega.com/knowledgebase/products/platform/release-notes?f%5B0%5D=version%3A26871 I am not aware of a 7.4 to 8.1 comparison document.

Hi,
We don't have any comparison document. If you want to artifact any, we would suggest you to make your own. You can use below links to do so.
New features added in 8x :- https://community.pega.com/knowledgebase/articles/introducing-pega-platform-81
New features added in 7x :- https://community.pega.com/knowledgebase/articles/introducing-pega-platform-74
It is always advisable to go for latest versions, as they are built with latest technologies.

So I'm here looking for a comparison of Pega 8.1, 8.2 and the new FNX, seeking justifications on which version to upgrade to. History has shown from a risk perspective it's better to deploy more seasoned versions rather than the latest and greatest. What really is not at all helpful is being told, here's a few links, "feel free to figure it out for yourself"
Perhaps my recommendation should be, "none of the above?" We'll see.

Hi,
Starting with Pega Platform version 8.1, Job Scheduler and Queue Processor rules replace Agents and improve background processing. More to the point, Job Scheduler rules replace Advanced Agents for recurring or scheduled tasks, and Queue Processor rules replace Standard Agents for queue management and asynchronous processing.Queue processors are faster than agents.
Thanks,

Is it a new application or you'll upgrade an existing one?
Having some applications on 7.3.1 and 8.2, I can say the new V8 is really different.
If you're neither on V7 nor V8, effort for the migration and testing/validation will anyway be important and costly. So, if you start a major migration/upgrade Project, you should directly consider V8 to avoid having to do another migration soon.
There's already a 8.3, so time for your project to start, this one will be stabilized.
If your management also thinks of going for all the typical features for Robotics/Automation/CI-CD, etc then V8 is for you.
For me, V8 should be considered. You'll at least be running on the latest main version and any future upgrade/update would be a minor one (at least for some time). Effort & Budget would be important once only.
