password change option in registration form

Hi , I wanted to generate a unique Id contains alpha numeric characters as a password  and it should directly go to mail , from where the customer can change the password using that alphanumeric . He can change the old password (alphanumeric) to  new his own password . Is it possible , if not how i can achieve this . can any one help .
