Need inputs on migration approach for Pega migration from OnPrem to client managed Cloud/ Azure, along with Pega upgrade 7.2to 8.7
Hi All,
We have the following requirements;
1. Migrate pega from Onprem to Azure cloud managed by client
2. Upgrade Pega from 7.2.2 to 8.7
3. Convert db from Oracle to Postgres
Can you please suggest migration approach.
We are planning for the following;
Step 1 - Install Pega 8.7 (with Postgres) on Azure cloud environment
Step 2 - Once Pega installation is done. Take RAP of the application and import in cloud environment
Step 3 - Use database migration tools like Azure Data studio to migrate the schemas, data.
Step 4 - Convert the custom db objects - like stored procs, views etc and fix it.
Step 5 - Apply remediation i.e. Update the deprecated code etc
Let us know if you have any inputs on the above appraoch.

I have updated some additional steps like update of 7.x data schema and testing of the application which seem critical.
Step 1 - Install Pega 8.7 (with Postgres) on Azure cloud environment
Step 2 - Once Pega installation is done. Take RAP of the application and import in cloud environment
Step 3 - Apply remediation i.e. Update the deprecated code etc
Step 4 - Convert the custom db objects - like stored procs, views etc and fix it.
Step 5- Test all application functionality are working as expected
Step 6 - Perform DataOnly update pegadata schema from Pega 7.x to 8.7
Step 7 - Use database migration tools like Azure Data studio to migrate the schemas, data.
Step 8 - compare the ddl of all tables migrated tables and 8.x environment
Step 9 - Either replace the (upgraded and migrated) 7.x data schema and bring up the server or Merge the table specific data with the working 8.x
