Is Marker file "deprecated"?
Hi,
I have always deleted "PegaRULES_Extract_Marker.txt" every time we import R-A-P / Hotfix to fresh out cache. However someone has found below article in Pega Help - "This file is deprecated. Use System Management Application (SMA) instead."
Can someone let me know what exactly that means? Marker file does exist in 7x and 8.1. SMA is deprecated in 8.1. I know SMA has cache deletion capabilities but there are too many buttons and people feel it cumbersome with SMA approach. I only use SMA when I do not have access to file system in very limited situation. Does marker file deletion and SMA deletion make any difference?

You shouldn't need to delete the extract marker file after performing an import. If that is necessary, it suggests there is a bug that should be looked into.

Well I wonder if your statement is true. I have seen the instruction to import Hotfix from GCS says "After import delete Marker file" multiple times. Also without Marker file deletion I have observed strange behavior many times in my experience (Some data instances won't be shown in auto complete, function doesn't work out, etc).

It was common for that to be requested back in 6.x and some people still do it out of habit, I would guess. In 7.x however, it should not be required and any strange behavior experienced without performing that should be reported to GCS for investigation.

Deleting this PegaRULES_Extract_Marker.txt file always was the quick and easy way to clear the server caches when rebooting an environment.
Is there any new way to perform this "cleaning the cache chen rebooting" trick?
