How to set up KPI for use in VBD in Pega 7.2
I am trying to compare outcomes from 2 data flows in VBD in Pega 7.2.
I completed the DSM courses for Pega 7.1 but feel that there are changes between 7.1 and 7.2 that are difficult to understand for new Pega users like myself.
First off, I am having some difficulty understanding how to create KPIs for use in VBD in Pega 7.2. I have set up data flows and they run correctly, but don't understand how to incorporate these data flows into VBD.
It seems that I need to define KPIs first, but I am having trouble understanding how to do this. Specifically, I don't understand how to complete the Define New Outcome section (where does the information come from, field doesn't autopopulate...)
I found the information on Pega on Adding a KPI (https://pdn.pega.com/sites/pdn.pega.com/files/help_v721/procomhelpmain.htm#dsm/tasks/dsm-vbd-adding-kpi-tsk.htm?Highlight=create kpi) to be vague for a new Pega user.
If anyone could provide a concrete example of how to incorporate Data Flow information into VBD in version 7.2 it would be very helpful. Also, any information that could be provided to better understand how to defined KPI outcomes would be appreciated.

First you have to check whether you have designed the Data Flow to write to VBD. You can configure the Data Flow to write the output of strategy execution to VBD using the 'Actuals' and/or a custom Data Set.
You would need to define a new Outcome if there is nothing matching the already available list displayed under 'Available Outcomes'.

Thank you for the help. Writing the result to VBD using 'Actuals' did work. I was able to figure it out how to do this eventually in the Data Flow through trial and error.
I would be great if there were some richer resources from Pega though (for example - trainings, videos, screen shots) around how to use data flows to perform simulations. This was a significant change from how simulations were performed in 7.1 and the current DSM training does not address this topic.

If you are trying to compare outcomes from 2 data flows in VBD, then configuring to write to Actuals is not exactly what you probably want to do.
I would recommend you to have have a look at the following two courses, both based on PRPC 7.2:
Avoiding Redundant Product Offerings - will teach you the basics about data flows; how to create one which is combining customer data
Testing Strategies En Masse with Simulations (7.21) - will teach you how to configure a data flow which is writing to VBD data sources (other than actuals).
I encourage you to download the exercise system, do the exercises and check the configurations there. That would hopefully help you to understand what you need to do for your specific use case.
