How to customize styling of Recent work items display in cosmos Navigation area

Team, we are in the process of V8.4 upgrade adopting COSMOS,

and the Recent Work Items styling is very tough to view the colors being applied to the case IDs, 

what is the pega recommended way of customizing the styling of this results layout while not deviating the cosmos OOTB behaviour and achieving the user friendly display.
