Dirty check instantly closing

In our application when navigating away from an assignment in Team Leader or Case worker portal, the dirty check modal is appearing for less than one second before closing and carrying out the action anyway.
This behaviour does not occur in dev studio, our relevant Portal configuration does not have dirty check related scripts embedded, one harness did have "Do not display warnings about unsaved changes" checked, however this does not explain why the dirty check is appearing in the first instance, and when unchecking this it seems to make no difference.
The userworkform does not contain any override for the dirty check, the only solution we have found so far is to use "pega.u.d.bUseNativeDirtyConfirm = true" to use the browser dirty popup, but the client would prefer to use the PEGA dirty check
